On March 2, the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference in Beijing to officially announce the "Chinese Academy of Sciences Science and Technology Support Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Strategic Action Plan" (hereinafter referred to as the "Action Plan"). The action plan states that the Chinese Academy of Sciences will deploy eight major actions in the areas of scientific and technological strategic research, basic frontier cross-innovation, breakthroughs in key core technologies, comprehensive demonstration of new technologies, talent support and cultivation, international cooperation support, innovation system capacity improvement, and "double carbon" science popularization, and In response to the major scientific and technological needs of the "dual carbon" strategy, 18 key tasks for specific implementation were proposed.
In September 2020, at the 75th United Nations General Assembly, China announced that it would strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. In July 2021, in order to thoroughly implement the major decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council on reaching carbon peak and carbon neutrality, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Party Group fully launched the "Chinese Academy of Sciences Science and Technology Support Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Strategic Action Plan."

By 2025, break through a number of key technologies that support carbon peaking, promote the low-carbon green transformation of the economy and society, and explore disruptive and transformative technologies that support the goal of carbon neutrality.
